Publishing Explained
WITHOUT THE JARGON

Most authors arrive with the same handful of worries: what it costs, how long it takes, who ends up owning the book, and whether anyone will actually read it. Here are honest answers to all of them, including the ones that are not especially flattering to us.

If your question is not here, just ask. We answer every enquiry personally and we will tell you if we are not the right fit for your project.

Do you work with first-time authors?

Most of our authors are first-timers, and the process is built around that. Nothing assumes prior publishing knowledge, every stage is explained in plain English before it happens, and you will never be handed a form full of industry terms and left to guess.

How much does it cost to publish a book?

It depends entirely on which stages you need, which is why nobody can give you an honest single figure on a website. An author arriving with a finished, edited manuscript pays a fraction of what a full ghostwriting project costs.

We quote per project after a free call, as one agreed scope. No surprise line items appear halfway through.

Do I keep the rights to my book?

Yes, completely. You are the author and the copyright holder, your name goes on the cover, and you keep every publishing right including translations, audio and adaptations.

Publishing accounts are opened in your name with your own banking details, so Amazon and Ingram pay royalties directly to you. Nothing routes through us and we take no share.

How long does the whole process take?

From a finished manuscript to a book on sale is usually two to four months: editing, cover design, formatting, then setup and distribution.

If we are also writing the book, add four to seven months before that for interviews, drafting and your review time. We confirm a realistic schedule in writing before any work starts, and we do not quietly extend it.

Do I have to buy every service, or can I pick just one?

Pick only what you need. Plenty of authors come to us for a cover alone, or an edit alone, and that is a perfectly sensible way to work with us.

We will tell you honestly which stages your book requires, including when the answer is fewer than you expected.

Will editing change my writing voice?

No. Our job is to make your writing clearer, not to make it sound like ours. Every substantive change arrives as a tracked suggestion with a comment explaining the reasoning, and you accept or reject each one individually.

Revisions are unlimited inside the agreed scope, and you approve every stage before we move on to the next.

Is there a cost for the first conversation?

No. The first call is free and carries no obligation. You leave it knowing what your book would realistically take in time and money, even if you then decide to do it yourself or go elsewhere.

You also do not need anything prepared. An idea and a willingness to talk about it is genuinely enough to start.

Will my book be on Amazon and in bookstores?

Your book will be on Amazon and every major digital retailer, and orderable by any bookstore or library in the world through Ingram's catalogue.

Guaranteed placement on a physical shelf is decided store by store, and no honest publisher promises it. What we do is set your trade discount and returnability so that a store which wants to stock you is able to.

If a ghostwriter writes it, is it still my book?

It is. You own the manuscript outright and our involvement stays confidential unless you decide to mention it. Every ghostwriting project is covered by a signed confidentiality agreement.

The same applies to design: you receive full commercial rights to your cover, the layered working files, and written confirmation of every image and font licence used.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Larger projects are split into stage payments that fall due as each stage is delivered and approved, so you are never paying far ahead of the work.

Is my manuscript kept confidential?

Yes. Every project is covered by a signed confidentiality agreement, and your material is never shared, quoted or used as a sample without your written permission.

Can you guarantee my book will sell?

No, and we would be careful with anyone who does. What we commit to is the work, the targeting and honest reporting of what each activity actually returned.

Our marketing service starts by fixing the free things — categories, keywords, description — before a cent goes to advertising.
